Vyazma, Smolensk region
The history of this monastery is akin to the history of the country. The monastery "took part" in two wars, like the country, rose from the ashes.
The monastery dates back to the distant 1542.
In the 17th century, a unique three-hipped cathedral church in the name of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God Hodegetria was erected on the territory of the monastery. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is one of the two three-hipped churches that have survived to this day (the second is in Uglich); included by UNESCO among the monuments of world importance.
