Schwerin Castle is located on the Palace Island in the city of Schwerin (Germany), it is a former ducal residence, now the parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is located here. Earlier, on the site of the majestic palace in 955, there was a Slavic fortress. The palace was built in 1845-1857 according to the project of the court architect Georg Adolf Demmler. The modern palace is an example of the compatibility of different architectural styles; the central pentagonal building is a combination of Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic. Numerous large and small towers soar upward, giving a fairytale look to the palace-castle. The equestrian statue of Niklot stands in front of the building's façade and impresses with its equally fabulous interior. All 653 rooms are exquisitely decorated with wood carvings, inlaid parquet, stucco and gilding on the ceiling. Through the gilded cast-iron doors you can enter the throne room, where there are columns of Carrara marble, called a masterpiece of interior art.
