Bojnice Castle

Bojnice Castle * is one of the most beautiful and famous castles in Slovakia. It rises on a high hill surrounded by a well-kept park. The castle was built in the 12th century, and in 1899-1909. was restored and rebuilt on the model of French castles. Throughout its history, the castle has changed many owners, now it houses a museum. The interior of Bojnice Castle is truly majestic. The interiors of the castle contain a neo-Gothic altar of the 14th century, historical furniture, porcelain, paintings and household items. One of the original buildings of the castle is a chapel with a beautiful vault and frescoes, built in 1662. There is a room for weapons in one tower of the castle. Medieval weapons can be seen here, including halberds, maces, swords, and shiny armor. The castle hosts events every year, such as the Annual International Festival of Spirits and Ghosts. The romantic castle is also a popular filming location for fairytale films such as Fantagiro, with a zoo and a thermal pool in the vicinity.
