Sokolov Pyotr Fedorovich - Russian watercolor painter, lithographer, portraitist, founder of the genre of Russian watercolor portrait, academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
In 1800 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts, where he studied painting under the close supervision of Professor B. K. Shebuev.
Sokolov was the first Russian watercolourist in time to show for the first time, among other things, the difference between watercolors and miniature painting. Sokolov's portraits, with a remarkable resemblance, were distinguished by their beautiful drawing and pleasant colors.
He was married to Yulia Pavlovna Bryullova, sister of the famous Karl Bryullov.
