A fragment of the Ascension Cathedral in Alma-Ata is depicted - a unique monument of wooden architecture, a sample of an earthquake-resistant grandiose structure. The cathedral was built in 1904-1907 by engineer AP Zenkov according to the project of the architect Borisoglebsky.
The earthquake of 1910, which turned the entire one-story Verny (former name of Alma-Ata) into ruins, seemed to have bypassed Zenkov's creation - the second tallest wooden building in the world.
