At different times, both under the tsarist regime and under Soviet rule, it lost its ecclesiastical significance. The gradual return of the monastery buildings of the Church, which began in 1992, ended in 2003 with the abolition of the sanatorium. On March 9, 2004, the Holy Synod of the UOC made a decision to grant the Svyatogorsk Hermitage the status of a Lavra.
