Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra

Part 1.

On the high right bank of the Seversky Donets River, not far from the town of Slavyansk in the Donetsk region in Ukraine, there is one of the oldest, most beautiful and amazing functioning monastery, the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Lavra.
Since the XVI century. the area "Svyatye Gory" on the Seversky Donets is referred to as a sentry post on the border of Muscovy with the Wild Field, dug out, dug in a chalk mountain. Over time, it became a monastic abode, completed with chapels and outbuildings.
The territory of the Lavra is quite vast, with buildings for various purposes from the Assumption Cathedral to monastic sketes. There is an inn for pilgrims, a huge refectory, a small menagerie, mostly with birds, and numerous church shops.
