Venus of Urbino

The image of "Venus of Urbinskaya" is textbook and well known from reproductions. Before us is a beautiful Venetian, contemporary of the artist, and he depicts her not in the bosom of nature, but in an ordinary environment - in a room of a patrician house - on a magnificent bed. A number of details - a dog at the feet of the hostess (a traditional image symbolizing loyalty), a maid at a chest with clothes, a flower in the window opening - creates an atmosphere of intimacy and warmth. The prototype of Venus was Eleanor Gonzaga, the loving wife of the Duke of Urbino, commissioned by whom Titian painted this canvas in honor of the 30th anniversary of their wedding.
The canvas was completed in 1538 in Venice, from the collection of the duke in 1631 it came to Florence, among other things that made up the dowry of Vittoria date Rovere, wife of Ferdinando II.
