Valentin Aleksandrovich Serov (1865 - 1911) - an outstanding Russian painter, graphic artist, master of portrait.
It was Serov, with his innate sensitivity to the processes taking place in world painting at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, who was destined to become a link between the classical painting of the 19th century and the innovations of the Silver Age.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Valentin Serov; an extensive exhibition of his works from many museums in Russia and abroad has opened at the Tretyakov Gallery.
