Initially, in 1869-1871, the dome in the auditorium of the Grand Opera was painted by the French painter Jules Leneuve, but in 1896 one of the huge shades fell, tearing out a significant piece of the painting. The famous Marc Chagall had a chance to restore the dome in 1964-1966, at the personal request of President de Gaulle. The artist conditionally divided the plafond into 5 sectors: blue, red, yellow, green, white. Each sector is dedicated to specific composers and landmarks. Chagall's favorite motives - lovers, animals, musicians and angels are also here.
“The sky, flight is the main state of Chagall's brush,” noted the poet Andrei Voznesensky.
“I walked on the moon. In my paintings, the characters were in the sky and in the air ... ”- said the artist.
