Solovetsky State Historical, Architectural and Natural Museum-Reserve
The Solovetsky Islands is an archipelago in the White Sea at the entrance to the Onega Bay.
The modern history of Solovki began in the 15th century. In 1429 the monks Herman and Savvaty sailed to the islands and began to live here. In 1436 a monastery appeared. After the schism, he remained an Old Believer, but then moved into the fold of the official church. The Solovetsky Monastery was not only a spiritual, but also a defensive center. The monastery walls withstood more than one siege.
