The construction of the palace and park ensemble of Peterhof began from the Monplaisir palace, whose name in French means “my pleasure”. The Monplaisir Palace was the favorite brainchild of Peter I. The Emperor personally chose the site for the building and sketched the building plan. The construction of the Monplaisir palace was carried out from 1714 to 1721 under the direction of architects I. Braunstein, J. Leblond and N. Michetti. The central building of the one-storey "Monplaisir" was made in the Dutch style, which explains the other name of the palace - "Dutch House".
The Monplaisir Palace still captivates visitors with the refined simplicity and lightness of the palace facades, the sophistication of the interiors and the geometric color of the Montplaisir Garden, created in the Dutch style. On the east and west sides it is closed by buildings, and on the south it is included in the general park area.
