Izmailovsky Island is a unique, quiet and green corner of Moscow, where the remains of the Tsar's estate Izmailovo are located.
Izmailovsky Island was artificially created in the middle of the 17th century. Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, who planned to build a ceremonial estate here, ordered to connect the Serebryany and Vinogradny ponds that had already been here. As a result, a territory surrounded by water was formed, in the center of which the royal residence was located. During the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich, the estate flourished; a menagerie was built here, where wild animals were demonstrated, galleries with labyrinths, many green pavilions and flower beds were created, and outlandish watermelons and melons were grown in unique greenhouses. Until now, from those distant times, the Bridge Tower has been preserved. Pokrovsky Cathedral, two entrance gates, stables. After the war of 1812, buildings of a military almshouse were added to the main Cathedral on three sides.
I would like to note that the Kremlin in Izmailovo shopping and entertainment area, recently built in stylized Russian popular prints, has nothing to do with either ancient architecture or the Tsar's residence on Izmailovsky Island.
