Isabella and Lorenzo
Illustration for the poem by John Keats "Isabella, or a pot of basil", and its plot, in turn, is borrowed from the "Decameron" by Boccaccio (IV day, 5th novella).
The love of Isabella and Lorenzo is tragic. The rich brothers, upon learning of her secret love for the poor young man Lorenzo, kill him. Isabella remains forever true to her love.
"Vassal of love - young Lorenzo,
Isabella is beautiful, simple-minded!
Is it possible that under the roof one
Love did not take possession of their hearts;
Is it possible that at the daytime meal
Their gazes did not meet every now and then;
So that they are in silence in the middle of the night
They did not dream each other in a dream. "
(John Keats)
