In "Notes of a Zamoskvoretsky Resident" Ostrovsky describes his "small homeland" as follows: "This country lies directly opposite the Kremlin, on the other side of the Moskva River, which is probably why it is called Zamoskvorechye."
In this "country" on Malaya Ordynka Street, at house number 9, in 1823, in the family of an official, the great playwright, "Columbus Zamoskvorechye" Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky (1823-1886) was born.
