Marshes in Siberia occupy vast areas.
Sergei Kirpotin, a scientist at Tomsk State University, put forward a hypothesis that has received wide resonance in the scientific world: an indicator of global warming has been found, which scientists have been looking for for so long, and this indicator is the Siberian swamps.
Having traveled from Khanty-Mansiysk to Novy Urengoy and Pangoda, scientists came to the conclusion that irreversible permafrost thawing began in the Siberian swamps. Swamps are melting, turning into lakes, and the existing lakes expand their areas. Lichens that block the sun's rays and keep the permafrost are flooded. Local residents say that 10 years ago the surface of the roads (the so-called "winter roads") froze at the end of October, and now - only at the end of December, sometimes even after the New Year.
