James Brereton was born in 1954 in Derby, England. James is a self-taught artist. He received his basic art education at the Joseph Wright Art School. Until 1979, he combined his non-painting work with evening painting. Since 1979 he has become a professional artist specializing in seascapes and ships. All his life he was in love with ships and the sea. He usually paints deep water and sailing ships of the nineteenth century with oil.
