Letter No. 4
Eliza,
I know that you, too, are looking for a meeting with me, that long-awaited day when we no longer have to say goodbye. And I am glad that you too realize the meaninglessness of this separation. Gratitude overwhelms me when you recognize all those signs that I send, when you whisper and smile at me, when your fingers stroke the covers of books, trying to find the one that will bring you closer to me. Sometimes you close your eyes and mentally ask me to help you, to guide you. And I guide you as I can, for all the wisdom of the world is in books. Everything has happened before, and even our meeting with you. In the books, all wars and all truces, countless loves and deaths, the path to enlightenment, the search and the thrilling thrill of recognition. In books, all gods and all religions. There, between the pages, I love you even more, as if it were possible. I send you the most beautiful lines rhyming with your heartbeats. Today you will fall asleep, clutching these poetic messages to the world to your chest, not even realizing that they were sent to you, because you yourself are the whole world.
