Xue Yanqun was born in Dalian, China in 1953. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, in 1981 and remained there to teach. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1989. He is now a professor at the academy and a member of the China Arts Association.
More than 200 of his figurative paintings have been shown in Chinese and overseas exhibitions since 1984. He won a silver medal, two bronzes and some honorary awards at these exhibitions. About 220 of his oil paintings have been acquired by the Chinese National Gallery, overseas art galleries, and private collectors.
