The Caño Cristales River means "crystal river", locals call this river "The River of Five Colors".
Caño Cristales originates in southern Colombia in a mountain range called Macarena. In the channel of the Caño Cristales River, there are many different landscape formations: depressions, waterfalls, whirlpools. There is practically no fish in this river, due to the above-described features of the channel, as well as the purity of the water. Several colors can be found in the bed of this river: red, yellow, black, blue and green. All these colors are a product of the vital activity of a large number of algae, the colors change depending on the seasons.
