The estate was built in the style of a French Renaissance castle between 1874 and 1889 for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild and is a country mansion with a huge garden, located in the village of the same name in Buckinghamshire. The last member of the Rothschild family to own the estate was James de Rothschild. He bequeathed the house and its contents to the National Trust in 1957. Today, after extensive restoration, it is run by the Rothschild Endowment, which is overseen by Jacob Rothschild. The estate houses one of the finest collections of 18th century decorative art, and its Victorian gardens are beautiful at any time of the year. The estate's wine cellars contain thousands of bottles of Rothschild wine.
