This diamond necklace was presented by the Emperor Napoleon to his second wife, Marie-Louise, in honor of the birth of their son Napoleon II, Emperor of Rome, in 1811. Over time, the necklace was eventually sold to Harry Winston, from whom the Merryweather Post acquired the necklace in 1960. She donated it to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts for the jewelry collection.
