The Suzhou embroidery technique has many features. The picture is embroidered with silk threads on silk fabric. It is said that the needles are used as thin as hair, and thin silk threads in different cases are divided into several more parts, becoming thin like a spider's web.
The colors are most often used bright and rich, the color range is very rich - for example, 20 different colors can be used for eye embroidery. Embroidered pictures can be either one-sided or double-sided. This is the most amazing thing ... Two-sided paintings have no face and wrong side - on both sides the picture is beautiful, full and expressive, there are no hints of knots.
The finest silk embroideries are superior to pictorial creations. There was a time when almost every family in Suzhou bred silkworms to produce silk threads that were used for embroidery. Even the names that have survived in Suzhou to this day speak for themselves: "silk thread lane", "silk factory", "flower embroidery street", and others. This type of embroidery was finally formed during the Song Dynasty (960-1279), and during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) it reached its greatest popularity. Elderly masters say that in the past, for the sake of preserving heredity and transmitting this art, the secrets of embroidery were passed down only to men or, for example, to the wife of a son, but were not passed on to daughters.
