France. Nerac is the family property of the d'Albret family, with which two Marguerites of Navarre are associated. The first Margaret of Navarre, sister of Francis I and grandmother of Henry IV, was a poetess, wrote short stories in the spirit of Boccaccio, patronized people of art and freedom-loving Huguenots. And the second Margaret of Navarre (Queen Margot) lived here in 1578-1582 with her husband Henry, having gathered around her a brilliant courtyard. After the revolution, the castle was partially destroyed and lost its beautiful gardens. Today it is a city museum.
