Moritzburg Castle was built in the middle of the 16th century by the local Elector Moritz of Saxony, whose name formed the basis for the name of the castle, and later the city of Moritzburg, located 14 km from Dresden. Initially, the castle looked like a country residence, made in the Renaissance style and intended for rest after hunting. In the second half of the 17th century, a Baroque chapel was added to the castle - a snow-white chapel, decorated from the inside with gilded stucco molding and artistic painting. In the 18th century, the Moritzburg Castle was completely rebuilt according to the idea of the Elector August the Strong in accordance with his Baroque tastes. The area around the castle also changed: the surrounding swamps were dried up, and instead of them three lakes appeared - Upper, Lower and Zamkovoye; the landscape of the park has been supplemented with beautiful garden-architectural compositions that have survived to this day.
