The monastery is located on the Devichye Pole in the bend of the Moscow River, near the Luzhniki Stadium, at the very end of the historic Prechistenka (now Bolshaya Pirogovskaya Street). It is both a functioning monastery and a branch of the State Historical Museum. Since 2010 it has been transferred to the Moscow Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church and is now a church museum.
