What do you think is common between a chauffeur and a fireman?
It turns out that drivers were originally called people who did not drive a vehicle, but threw coal or wood into the furnace of the engine room of a steam locomotive. The word comes from the French chauffeur, which means "stoker, stoker". Since the engine of the first cars was a steam engine, the drivers melted it, therefore, by analogy with the stokers of steam locomotives, they also began to be called chauffeurs.
