Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the most impressive castles in Japan, almost inaccessible and with luxurious interiors. Defined as Important Cultural Property. Twelve towers, high stone walls, staircases that turn the castle grounds into a three-dimensional labyrinth are a delightful place for a tour. The castle is especially beautiful during the cherry blossom season. White and pink cherry blossoms, combined with the greenery of giant elms and camphor trees, against the backdrop of a magnificent guardian, create a stunning landscape. The castle museum has a wonderful collection of old maps, weapons, palanquins.
The castle was built by Kato Kiyomasa in 1607 and in a fully finished form had 130 walls, five kilometers of outer walls, 49 towers, 18 tower gates, 29 castle gates.
