Moscow, Bolshaya Ordynka - there is a complex of buildings of the Martha-Mariinsky Convent of Mercy.
The founder of the monastery was the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova. After the tragic death of her husband, the Moscow governor-general, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich (son of Alexander II), Elizaveta Fedorovna retired from secular and court life, and devoted her further existence to spiritual and charitable activities.
In 1908, at the expense of Elizabeth Feodorovna, the laying of the cathedral church in the name of the Intercession took place. It was built according to the project of A. Shchusev with elements of Novgorod-Pskov architecture. The temple was painted by outstanding artists M. Nesterov and P. Korin
