Avatar) is a 2009 American sci-fi film written and directed by James Cameron. The film takes place in the year 2154, when mankind extracts the valuable mineral anobtanium on Pandora, an inhabited satellite of a gas planet in the Alpha Centauri star system. In the story, a resource-extracting corporation threatens the existence of a local tribe of human-like intelligent beings - the Na'vi. The title of the film is the name of the genetically engineered bodies, Na'vi hybrids and humans used by the research team to explore the planet and interact with the native inhabitants of Pandora.
