Podverbnaya Maria
Maria Podverbnaya was born in 1941 in a tiny town not far from Kostroma, in the very heart of Russia. For several years Maria worked as a literature teacher at a local school, and spent all her free time with an easel and brushes under the walls of an ancient monastery on the banks of the Volga.
In 1964, Podverbnaya graduated with honors from the graphic arts department of the Pedagogical Institute in Kostroma, but the real school for Maria was not academic classes, but the nature that surrounded her, the water kingdom of the Volga, the very air of Russia. The style of her paintings is naive and evokes a gentle smile, and the compositions are imbued with a fabulous feeling of the fullness of life.
Maria's works are popular all over the world. And this is not surprising: although they are all written in the traditional Russian style, the joy inherent in them is international.
Podverbnaya took part in 62 different exhibitions in Russia and Europe; her works are in private collections in France, Great Britain, Spain, Belgium, and the United States.
