Karl Hauptmann
German artist Karl Hauptmann (1880 - 1947) was born in Freiburg to a carpenter's family. From childhood he was fond of drawing. After graduating from high school, he studied the art of painting in Nuremberg, and then in Munich. He worked as a freelance artist, served in the army - was an alpine shooter. While serving in the army, Karl Hauptmann saw the mountains for the first time in his life and immediately fell in love with them, with the strict alpine landscapes. After the service, he bought a house in the Alpine foothills and stayed there for the rest of his life. Here he painted wonderful landscapes.
