John Constable
John Constable (1776 -1837) was a major British landscape painter of the Romantic era. He is famous for his images of the English countryside, typical rural England with villages, as from the detectives of Agatha Christie or the novels of Wilkie Collins, especially the native Stour Valley. This area is now known as Constable Country (Constable's End). Constable's landscapes marked a turning point in the development of this entire genre of European painting.
