Johann Georg Ziesenis
Johann Georg Ziesenis (1716 1776) German - Danish portrait painter.
His father Johan Jürgen Ziesenis was an artist from Hanover who obtained Danish citizenship in Copenhagen in 1709 and whose works included the Baptism of Christ in 1739 for the Copenhagen garrison church. After drawing lessons from his father, Johann lived in Düsseldorf, where he received further education and painted several portraits of the royal family. In 1764 he became a court painter in Hanover, and in 1766 the Danish king granted him 400 crowns "for travel and other expenses." In 1768 he was in the Netherlands, where he painted portraits of William V, his wife and family.
Johann Georg Ziesenis created around 260 portraits and other paintings and sketches in his lifetime, including Crown Prince Frederick (1767, now in Fredensborg), Frederick II, and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (future wife of George III of the United Kingdom).
