Jean Carolus

Jean Carolus, French painter of Belgian origin. Genre painter, native of Brussels. Almost nothing is known about his life - there is no information either about his family or about his origin
Historians write that he was patronized by the director of the Belgian Royal Academy of Fine Arts, François-Joseph Navez. Probably, he was his teacher from the beginning until the young artist was published. When he left for France - it is not known, in France he lived until the end of his days.
Jean received from his teacher excellent brush and color skills. Modernity seemed boring to him, so the artist turned to the past, to the 18th century. In his paintings there are luxurious imaginary interiors, chic clothes of his heroes and heroines. A continuous holiday of colors!
The main theme of his painting is plot scenes. In his paintings, the artist combines the grace and elegance of figures with attention to interior details.
