Isack van Ostade

Isack van Ostade (Isaac van Ostade, 1621 - 1649) is a great Dutch artist. He is the brother of the famous artist Adrian van Ostade (1610-1685). Adrian was not only Isaac's brother, but also his main teacher. The works of the two artists are so similar in style, technique and subject matter that they are often confused.
Isaac van Ostade was born in Haarlem in 1621 and lived a rather short life, only 28 years old. However, his life was very fruitful and during the time allotted to him by fate, he managed to create about a hundred paintings, which today are considered real masterpieces of world importance and occupy an honorable place in the history of all fine arts. The art of Isaac van Ostade is an outdoor genre scene, with a subtle rendering of the nature of lighting, with silvery tones and dramatic light and shade. Isaac's works can be seen today in museums in Berlin, in the Parisian Louvre, Munich's Old Pinakothek, the National Gallery in London, the Thiesen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, as well as in the St. Petersburg Hermitage "Frozen Lake". Most of the paintings are in private collections of connoisseurs of high art.
