Hendrikus van de Sande Bakhuyzen
Hendrikus van de Sande Bakhuyzen (Hendrik (Hendrikus) van de Sande Bakhuyzen) (1795-1860) was a Dutch landscape painter of the 19th century. He made significant contributions to the romantic period in Dutch art, and his students and children founded an art movement known as The Hague School.
Most of van de Sande Bachuysen's work is summer landscapes, but he also painted a small number of winter scenes, often typically Dutch, including windmills, skaters, and cottages built in traditional Dutch architectural style. In this regard, his work was very reminiscent of the work of Andreas Schelfhout (1787–1870), a close friend known for his winter landscapes and with whom V.S. Bahuizen.
His works are exhibited at the Rijksmuseum, the British National Trust, the Teyler Museum in Haarlem, the Fodor Museum, the Bern Museum of Fine Arts, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and others.
