Gustave Léonhard de Jonghe
On February 4, 1829, Belgian painter Gustave Leonard de Jonge was born in Kortrijk. In his youth, Gustav Jonge showed remarkable talent for playing the violin, and the father of the future artist, the famous landscape painter Jean-Baptiste de Jonge, wanted his son to become a musician. But, Gustave Jonghe became interested in painting, and decided to devote himself to this art. Gustave Jonghe tried his hand at the historical genre, sacred history, in the portrait, but soon began to create works of scenes from the domestic life of women and children of the middle class.
