George Dunlop Leslie
George Dunlop Leslie (1838–1921) is an English genre painter, writer and illustrator. Leslie was born in London, the son of the famous genre painter Charles Robert Leslie. Leslie studied first at the Carrie Academy of Arts, and in 1854 entered the Royal Academy. His first exhibition at the Academy took place in 1859, and thereafter he exhibited there annually. In his work, the artist gave preference to light-hearted subjects in order to show "scenes from the rainbow side of the life of an English family." The artist often used children as characters in his paintings. Despite the ordinariness of Leslie's work, his paintings were highly regarded by critics of the time.
