Cicely Mary Barker
Cecile Mary Barker (Cicely Mary Barker; 1895-1973) is an English illustrator who painted children among flowers, mainly in the form of fairy and elves. The girl began to show early creative inclinations, when she was 15 years old, her father showed several of her daughter's works to the publisher Raphael Tuck. The works were purchased and printed in a series of postcards. In addition to postcards, Barker is famous for the books "Fairies of Flowers", the first of which was published in 1923 in the wake of the flourishing fashion for fairies. With the light hand of Queen Mary (a lover of doll houses), who sent postcards with cheerful and innocent fairies to her exhausted World War I friends, Barker's books (8 volumes) and postcards with her drawings became incredibly popular. I must say that all fairies were drawn by Barker from nature, from the pupils of the kindergarten, which was in charge of her sister. And the flowers and trees are reproduced with truly botanical precision.
