Charles Henri Joseph Leickert

The famous painter of Dutch landscapes and cityscapes Charles Henry Joseph Leickert (1816-1907) was born in Brussels. Its romantic winter landscapes with ice-bound rivers, windmills on the banks, ancient castles, which often seem to bathe in the rays of the evening sun, are memorable and impressive.
Leickert studied with renowned Dutch masters of urban scenes. Andreas Schelfhout had a particularly strong influence on his work. The source of inspiration for the artist was the seventeenth century. A bright and talented artist, in 1861 Leickert was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam (Academy of Fine Arts). He was a very successful and prolific artist whose career spanned over half a century. The artist's paintings can be seen in a number of museums in Europe.
The Hermitage's exposition includes "City Landscape"
