Albert Bredow
Albert Bredow (1828-1899) - an outstanding painter, landscape painter, master of lithography, theater decorator. Was born in Germany. He arrived in Russia in 1856 at the invitation of the Directorate of Imperial Theaters. As a decorator of the Moscow imperial theaters, he worked from 1856 to 1862. From 1862 he was transferred to the service in St. Petersburg theaters and worked there until 1871. Designed performances at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater: the ballet Le Corsaire (1858), the opera La Traviata (1858), the opera Mermaid (1859), etc. At the Mariinsky Theater: the opera A Life for the Tsar (1860) , and others. Has designed many famous performances at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow (ballet "La Sylphide"), the Mariinsky Theater (operas "Ruslan and Lyudmila", "Life for the Tsar"). Scenery sketches were published in the "Album for the opera" A Life for the Tsar "(Petersburg, 1863). He was a follower of the famous theater artist A. Roller. In the scenery he performed spectacular stage pictures. In 1868 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. At academic exhibitions he exhibited landscapes "Schwangheim Forest near Frankfurt am Main", "View in the Taunus Mountains", "Ruins of the" Königstein "fortress," Huts in Pargolov "," Russian Village ", etc. He traveled a lot, painted landscapes of Germany, Latvia and Russia. Working on stage sets, he painted spectacular stage pictures, often not related to choreography and music. In 1868 he entered the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. Permanent participant in academic exhibitions. The artist's works have been repeatedly noted by the outstanding Russian critic V. Stasov. The artist's sketches of the scenery are kept in the fund of the State Central Theater Museum named after A.A. Bakhrushin in Moscow. Albert Bredov's works are kept in museums and private collections.
